POV-Ray is the free raytracting program I use for rendering my maille tutorials and other toys. On this page I keep all of my tutorials for using POV-Ray. Go to the first tutorial, start reading, and good luck! If you want to improve your skills beyond what is covered in these pages, then I'd recommend looking in the POV-Ray documentation. It's quite complete and not too hard to read once you get used to it.
Beginner's Tutorial | This tutorial covers the basics of making a POV-Ray scene, covering the camera, light source, and the basic objects, as well as simple pigments and finishes. | Useful basic techniques | Once the basics of POV-Ray have been mastered, this tutorial will teach several techniques that make designing scenes far easier: #declares, the for loop, and Constructive Solid Geometry. |
Transparencies | How to use transparencies in POV-Ray, including the merge CSG. | |
Blob objects | The blob object, a convenient way to make organic objects or smooth joins between cylinders and blobs. |
