Intro
Hi! I'm Itai Seggev. I have no real reason, or desire, for a home
page, but since I do have a collection of various things people might
be interested in, I felt obligated to created an actual home
page. Feel free to look around, but I'm guessing what you're actually
looking for is in the table of contents
About Me
I am currently employed at Wolfram
Research. I previously enjoyed teaching stints in the
Mathematics Department of
Knox College and the
Department of
Physics and Astronomy at Ole Miss. I
completed my Ph.D. (in mathematical physics) at
University of Chicago. I'm an alum of
that most illustrious of institutions,
Harvey Mudd College, with a double major in
physics and
mathematics. In case you're wondering
why my home page is on the server of the HMC
CS Department, it's becasue I'm an
"ex-staffer," as we're called. I'm guarnteed this "initials account" for as
long as I want it. Go nepotism.
In an attempt to make this page slightly less boring, I'm slowly
collecting buttons of various organizations to which I belong. Three
are below. More may be on the way.
- I'm a member of the KDE
Hebrew Localization Team. Click on the nifty button
below to learn more about KDE and why it's cool.
- I'm a long time member of the ACLU. Click on the icon below to
learn which of our civil liberties are under attack today
and how to do something to protect them.
- Carmel is the name of a famous mountain in Israel. It's also a
project to unify translations into Hebrew of the various
open source projects (e.g., KDE,
Gnome,
Mozilla, and
OpenOffice). Working
on translating KDE has gotten me involved with them as
well. Click on the image below for more info on Open Source
projects in Hebrew. (Warning! The Carmel site is Hebrew
only.)

Here are some things which I have lying around this website. If
you're here, your probably looking for one of them:
- Many people seem to like the various handouts
I've created for my physics classes. Perhaps you will, too!
- Slides from various talks I've given are availabe.
- You may want to take a look at instructional
web pages I created in the summer of 1997. These were developed as
part of an REU at UIUC. These were supposed to be just the first in a
series and I thought they were pretty good, but they weren't what my
advisor was looking for, so the project never went anywhere.
- Jason Fredrickson, Jamey Minnis, and I create a nifty project on laser cooling. It's cute.
It's still here mainly because disk space is cheap.
- While a graduate student, I TA'd Physics
352 (StatMech) and Physics 316 (Classical
Mechanics). These pages are still up becasue, again, disk space is
cheap, and, dammit, I made some pretty nice solution sets.
- I put toegether a proposal for reforming
the HumSoc requirements at HMC. While many of my classmates agreed
with it, I was unable to rally a larger section of the alumni towards
it. The HumSoc department's reaction ranged from cool to rather
hostile. Eventually, the HumSoc department did reform its requirements
in a way which, while certainly a significant improvemnt and
incorporating certain elements of my proposal, was rather modest and
completely ignore this proposal.
This website uses valid HTML 4.01 and CSS. If it looks weird, it is
likely that the issue is with your browser. I recommend Mozilla
Firefox. (Click on the big button below to get it for free.)
