Hey! I got one of the first dozen or so computer science degrees from Mudd way back in 1997, doing most of my upperclass coursework with Mike and Ran. After graduation, I spent a few years at The Aerospace Corporation, working on research and corporate projects involving distributed systems and computer networks (i.e., "cloud computing" back before it was called that). During the dot-com boom I rode a few startup rollercoasters, mainly working backend integration and middleware for e-commerce and entertainment clients including Hot Topic, HBO, and Showtime. When the bubble finally burst, I popped back on over to Aerospace and spent a few years as a systems and network engineer. I worked network design and architecture for MILSATCOM's TSAT program. During my TSAT stint, I learned about systems engineering and helping facilitate across stakeholder boundaries, and ended up providing leadership for requirement and risk analysis. I also acted as a conduit for day-to-day oversight of Lockheed-Martin's network design and engineering team. TSAT got me involved with the IETF, IRTF, and the DoD GIG communities. After TSAT was cancelled, I went back to a startup, this time as a director of engineering and wearer-of-various-hats-without-heads for a web-based music game company. When the startup ran out of funding, I decided to take some time off, and I traveled around the world to the west with pit stops at a kung fu school in China, a Buddhist monastery in Nepal, and various other places. I'm currently re-settling in Austin. I love to work on problems that involve lots of people and moving parts. Some of the hardest problems in engineering have more to do with communicating about systems so I like to help facilitate with clear design, requirement, and interface documentation. Speciality areas I've enjoyed working with include distributed systems, mobile/disadvantaged networks, network security, requirement and risk analysis, process methodology, and performance testbeds. I'm intrigued by the sharing economy, privacy issues, and the evolving impact of Internet on society. Other interests of mine include yoga, taiji, qigong, meditation, rock climbing, beer, photography, consciousness, the burn community, and electronic music. If you're a CS Mudder looking for an internship in Austin, Los Angeles, or the Bay Area, I'd be happy to help connect you with some of my contacts. This is my resume. | |
