Research Opportunities with Prof. Alvarado
I am always looking for good students to do research with me during the
academic year and during the summer.
During the academic year, I am available to supervise independent study
projects directly related to any of my projects (see my research page
for more information about my current projects), assuming you are able
to commit to at least 2 units (~6 hours/week). Please come
talk to me if you are interested (alvarado@cs.hmc.edu).
During the summer, I usually have several openings for full-time
projects. To apply for these positions, please following
the HMC CS Department application procedures. Note that the
deadline for application is usually in early March.
Summer Research Opportunities, 2011
Research opportunities for Summer 2011 have been filled. Please check back for next summer.
Required Background
For any project, I am looking for motivated students who are as
excited about this
research as I am. It is not necessary for students
to have any knowledge
of sketch recognition or user interface design, but for projects related to sketch recognition basic knowledge of
AI is preferred.
For some projects, students should have experience developing large software
systems
(at least CS 70, CS121 (Software Design) preferred). For the the digital circuit project,
knowledge of digital
design and computer architecture is a plus.
I also work to make positions available for women and underrepresented
minority students, particularly during the summer after their first
year.
If you are a first year woman or underrepresented minority
student who is interested in
doing
research with me (even if you are not sure you want to be a CS major),
please apply even if you don't have the required background.
