Saotome, Ranma (sow-tO'-mA ra'-n-ma) n.

A native of Japan, Ranma Saotome was 16 years old when he went on a training mission with his father, Genma Saotome, to the legendary cursed springs of Jusenkyou. It was there that he became cursed: contact with cold water will transform him into a girl, while hot water will return him to his normal state. Ranma is an accomplished martial artist, slated to carry on the Saotome School of Anything-Goes Martial Arts as well as the Tendou Dojo. Ranma currently lives at the Dojo in Japan's Nerima district, where he attends Furinkan High School.

Although still young, Ranma has several fiancees, many of which were arranged by his father at various points during his childhood. These include Akane Tendou, Ukyou Kuonji, and Shampoo. These engagements are the subject of much 'debate' on all sides.

Ranma practices the martial art of Kenpo, and his specialized techniques include the Tenshin Amaguri-ken (chestnuts roasting on an open fire punch), the Hiryuu Shouten-ha (flying dragon punch), and the Saotome School Secret Technique.
