The next leg went East for two hours, out to a town near the Austiran boarder, then a final train change and a one-hour trip into the Alps down to Berchtesgaden. This was about 10 minutes into that last leg.
In Berchtesgaden I found a cheep hotel. (The youth hostel would have been a 25-minute walk away from town in the dark.) The hotel, like the rest of town, was very Bavarian Alps, with antlers and guns on the walls. Bavaria is the largest state of Germany, and comprises the South-East corner of the country. Hence, "Bavarian Alps" just means the alps in that piece of Germany, just like "Colorado Rockies". 23 May 2004, 20:11
