Review of "Countdown to Destruction"

[PART I]

With the Power Rangers having lost the Delta Megazord & the Mega Voyager, all of the evil space alien leaders (i.e. Astronema, Dark Specter, Divatox, etc.) have begun attacking virtually every planet in the universe. The Rangers head to earth to save it from being taken over, & have a lot of difficulty fighting back all of the evil forces. In spite of all of the Rangers' efforts, including Zhane's use of the repaired Mega Winger, the evil space aliens seemed to be winning as Part I of this 2-part episode ended. Indeed, this was a good way to build up the suspense for the conclusion of this episode.

[PART II]

The Rangers were at the brink of giving up. However, Andros had a plan, which he executed by flying up to the Dark Fortress using Battalized mode. It was somewhat of a surprise to see the other Rangers publicly reveal their identities, yet interesting. But I thought the best part of the episode began when Andros sneaked onto the Dark Fortress & created a diversion so that he could search for his sister, Karone, who was presently Astronema. Suddenly, he found Zordon, and was told that the only way to save the universe was to sacrifice Zordon by destroying his energy tube so that Zordon's good energy would destroy all evil forces in the universe. For obvious reasons, Andros couldn't do it at first. Then after a skirmish with Astronema, Andros "accidentally" killed her. While grieving, Ecliptor enters the room & is angered by what has happened. After knocking the sword out of Ecliptor's hand, Andros reluctantly destroys Zordon's energy tube after Zordon tells him that he has a duty as a Power Ranger to save the universe.

In what is probably the best ever ending for a PR episode to date, all the evil space aliens were destroyed (except for Lord Zedd, Rita Repulsa, and Divatox, who morphed into ordinary humans). However, the most emotional moment in PR history (in my opinion) came when Andros landed the Dark Fortress & carried Astronema's body outside. After he lay her body on the ground, he cried. The acting involved in this was really good; it was clear that he really cried. Fortunately, his tears changed Astronema back to Karone & revived her as well. Of course, in my opinion, Andros might also have been crying because he knew that he would never be able to see Zordon again. Finally, after helping the residents of KO-35 move back to their home planet to resume their normal lives, the Rangers (including Andros, Zhane, & Karone) headed for earth.

If I had to guess what the Power Rangers did immediately after arriving on earth (after the episode ended), I would probably say that they headed for the Surf Spot, because they obviously used up a lot of energy in this episode. Of course, this is just my opinion.

OVERALL RATING: This PRiS finale deserves 6 stars out of 5.
