We discussed project ideas. We searched through existing games on the likes of CSUnplugged and the Internet in general and found two relevant games of interest: Manufactoria and Treasure Hunt. The former is interesting, the latter a concept that might prove difficult to convert to an iPad-style game. We decided to look more into each of them.
We met after class on Tuesday 10/1. John had a new game idea that we are going to present on Thursday 10/3 to our teacher. This is a puzzle game, where the user is presented with, essentially, a finite state machine. Each state can have a point value, or a star in it (or nothing). Given a limited number of items (colored balls? little fighter guys? --some fun version of 1s and 0s, etc.), the user is tasked with feeding these inputs to the state in a way that collects all the stars and gets to the final state. They get extra for reaching the bonus point states. There are a number of levels to this game, with increasing degrees of complexity (and correspondingly cooler bonuses, inputs, etc).
