Editing PamelaWords
The purpose of this node is to list words that people create randomly and use among boring "normal" words. As PamelaRettig is a source of many of these words (and because she came up with the title), the node has been dubbed PamelaWords. : AndrewSchoonmaker is likewise "recognized as the world's foremost source of (plural)WordOnlyAndrewUses." Feel free to add your favorites to the list. No fair making up words just to add them, though! Unless otherwise stated, these words were actually used in conversation by PamelaRettig. Feel free to laugh at me. * meta-prophesial experience * mismeasurement ** I still think this is a real word --DanCicio ** ''Mr. Webster agrees with you'' ** Microsoft Word, however, does not ** ''Microsoft Word's dictionary is incomplete; it also doesn't think that, e.g., "parametrization" is a word.'' ** Well, I guess I shouldn't have acknowledged PamelaRettig in my TechReport for defining mismeasurement as a word, then. Oh well. ** Hey! I didn't make it into a word, I just said it was one. Just because I declare something to be true doesn't mean it wasn't already. Sometimes I just really do know more than you, Dan. Eh. Well. Never mind. :)'' * over-protectivenessityismish-like things --DanCicio * grrr * umbrellaermmonkey ** wasn't it monkeyermumbrella? * ginormous (due to ProfessorSweedyk, popularized by ChrisPries) ** I believe this was actually due to ProfessorFleck... ** It also appeared in the musical "Tommy" quite a bit before used by either profs. *** Also in Transformers: The Movie, c1986 * plothole ** According to StephGrush: Like a pothole, except in the plot of life. Like you made a choice your DM hadn't expected and didn't have any material for and had to wing it. * varibiguous ** AndrewSchoonmaker: uh, ambiguous in multiple different ways, depending on interpretation. helps if it can also be used as a play on "very big" * preterition ** AndrewSchoonmaker: I believe this is a misremembering of whatever the hell the word is for mentioning something by "Well, I won't mention your wife-beating, but..." -- this was the original WordOnlyAndrewUses, near as I can remember * misremembering (see above) ** Misremember is also a real word, again by Merriam-Webster. * gnomonly (due to Leslie Lamport, who notes that it's "not a very gnomonly used word") ** since the gnomon was the original sundial, this may be an interestingly archaic adverbial way to refer to things timely * occasiochronistically ** Sometimes... (?) * spongeform-encephalopoditis ** This one actually ended up in a psychology paper. Not mine (damn!) --PamelaRettig * sardineically ** is this like being like a sardine? --JerryLawrence ** nah, it's when you're saying something disdainful, but with your words really freaking close together --PamelaRettig * joyity ** Joyity can in some instances substitute for levity or gaiety. * fillupDan'sboxandannoyhim ** The actions leading to the creation of this word only accomplished half of it's definition. Dan isn't easily annoyed. * andropsid * televangelmorphically * sneather ** As in "That leaker is made out of sneather." --PamelaRettig * modemify * linuxy * vimongerific * swishfishy * apatheist --EvilSouthie ** It should be noted that I came up with this term, independently, and have used it in conversation. --AdamField * politicalamity ** Actually the name of a song by the group Extreme * pornograffiti (side note... did you know that graffito is the singular form of graffiti? I didn't even realize graffiti was plural) ** The name of a song from the same named album by Extreme * evilangelist ** yet again... Extreme... they were fond of these * chloroformity ** Those plants are green. Yeah, all of them. * chemievolutionalically * macaronesque * gelamunition ** Jello fight, anyone? * plap ** Not made up for this list, rather for crossword puzzle use. Any word, if used often enough is a legitimate crossword word. ** Honestly. No words should be made up for this list anyway. The point is not just that the word is stupid... it must also have at some point filled in when no real word could convey the proper meaning! --PamelaRettig * amboguous ** From the [http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/jargon Jargon File]; when something has more than one bogus interpretation. * nookling ** Little one of the nook. See also "nookleing." Very different meaning on that one. * indemnivoration * largessetic * firmitude - MicahSmukler at crossword * treesnuggler ** You know, like a tree-hugger but with more passion. (try explaining that one to a prof!) * postlapsarian (it's actually a word, but the meaning turned out to be quite different..) * flummy ** Adjective describing that state of mild SleepDep in which everything is amusing. Once you've gotten to the point where you actually feel tired and life feels sucky, you're no longer flummy. Coined by a random guy on <nowiki>OverClocked</nowiki> Remix, picked up and used by AdamField. * coherenting ** "to act or speak in a way that is considered coherent". SeleneTan uses it when she is not very coherent, e.g. "I is not coherenting!"
