*You start with seven dwarves.  You try to build the greatest, most insanely elaborate structures imaginable, while putting up with not-directly-controllable dwarves and completely uncontrollable tyrannical nobles.  Kind of like TheSims combined with DungeonKeeper, with a hefty helping of KoboldCreature and fiery death.  But mostly fiery death.
