Suggestions:

• Read something about computer architecture. The CACM or the SIGARCH (ACM special interest group on Architecture) or IEEE Micro are good places to look.
• Read something on I/O. There are a couple of historical articles on I/O performance in the reading list.
• There are a few Usenix conference proceedings in the CS terminal room - please return the proceedings.
• Also, on the Sun web pages are some whitepapers on semaphores, threads, etc.
• Again, the library and the CS library have relevant articles.
