The paper only describes about priority paging. It shows what the priority paging is, what the benefits of priority paging are, how priority paging enables, how priority paging works, and some paging statistics.
According to the paper, Priority paging is a new paging algorithm which can significantly enhance system response when the file system is being used. When the file system is being used heavily, response of applications can suffer significantly.
Because of this reason, system could be seen as poor interactive system and trashing of the swap disk. When the priority paging is enabled, performance will increase between 10-300% as HPC benchmarks have shown.
The authors show that the priority paging is very reasonable to use and seems very effective on Solaris system. However, the paper was not long enough to explain all about priority paging and all reason to use the priority paging. The paper did not seem to introduce a quite new technical knowledge. It just introduces the updated version of the document that shows performance to gain higher effect of paging of applications.
