The row of the ChessBoard farthest from a player. This is the row upon reaching which ChessPawns (in WesternChess and most variants thereof) and CheckerPiece?s promote. Thus, dropping pieces which can promote onto the LastRank is generally forbidden in games which allow piece drops. ("Instant ChessQueen? Sounds good to me...")
