Some possibilities... The "journey" is the 4 years at Mudd. At the beginning you pick your major (corresponding to the professions). Each major gives you a certain amount of "free time" (or maybe "unstress points"); Engineers, say, will get the lowest amount of free time to start with but get a bonus on completion, like the Teachers in Oregon Trail. You can "buy" things to start with from your high school experience, e.g. AP Physics that, depending on how you use them, might save you free time along the journey. I'm not sure what the equivalent of hunting would be, since everyone knows that's a major reason to play Oregon Trail. ;-) "Towns" and "Forts" I guess would be exams and projects, maybe like rivers, you could choose to try to study (use Free Time) or try to use some of your high school experience (e.g. the AP Physics from earlier).
