11 August 2005

Well, it's been some time since I last updated this page, but I finally submitted all of my back-logged changes. For starters, I re-wrote the entire web page maintenance script and supporting tools which greatly simplifies the task of keeping this site operational and consistent. Secondly, I revised the web pages to use cascading style sheets and appropriate XHTML everywhere in order to comply with the W3C specifications and reduce the size and clutter of the old HTML with tables. And lastly, I cleaned up the actual content of all the pages and removed or posted notices regarding outdated material.

19 May 2005

I have been reading up on OpenGL and the Lua scripting language lately in preparation for my forth-coming XMMS/Beep Media Player visualization plugin. Expect it to be released in the next few months once it becomes stable.

4 April 2005

My apartment complex has finally resolved its troubled laser-link internet connection and moved to an optical connection which means I can now access and clean up my web page again!

24 February 2004

I recently purchased my own copy of Design Patterns by Erich Gamma et al., which is quite possibly the greatest programming book ever written. This inspired me to find further reading regarding C++ and Design Patterns which lead me to the website of Bruce Eckel. Not only is he a very skilled author, he has also published his wonderful books online! Unfortunately, I intend to read these before attempting to redesign my current project, so it may be a while before any progress is made.

17 February 2004

After analyzing the source code for my current project, I have decided that a serious overhaul of the network code is in order. To be more specific, my current scheme sends too many packets per second, does not handle lag gracefully, and cannot deal with dropped packets. I believe that my new implementation will be a lock-step prediction/correction algorithm similar, in spirit, to that used in the Unreal engine.

14 February 2004

I have been extremely busy with my Masters program for the past few months and have thus been unable to perform any satisfactory amount of development on my personal programming projects. The good news, however, is that I have a two month semester holiday starting today. By the way, Happy Valentine's Day!

4 December 2003

Big news for today! I have secretly been continuing work on the project I mentioned earlier. I have now reimplemented the entire game engine, including a particle system, true physics, environmental effects, and more. I have also completed a preliminary version of the network code. Basically, the game is designed in a multi-player client/server arrangement a la Quake III.

10 November 2003

I just thought I would mention how unbelievably amazing Oktoberfest in Munich is. In my opinion, the beer is the best in the world and it is cheap! My personal favorite is Augustiner-braeu.

20 October 2003

Today, I decided to stop work on all of my programming projects and focus on a new project. About three years ago, I wrote a little demonstration game to practice and refine my C++ skills. Then, a year ago, I returned to that project and cleaned up the code and making it support multiple platforms. Now, I have started a complete redesign of the game to support multiple platforms, networked game-play, and artificially intelligent enemies. More information will be given as the game develops.

1 October 2003

Well, something strange happened while I was in Europe: I decided to stay in Germany! I am now attending the Mathematical Institute in Munich and studying Logic. This is a rather strange turn of events as my specialization was in Artificial Intelligence. However, I am hoping that by spanning multiple disciplines, I can gather a greater wealth of information and therefore make more innovative progress.

17 June 2003

So, today I leave for a 2 month back-packing trip across Europe, which effectively means I will be freezing all of my program development and I will not be making updates to the website. See you again in two months!

2 February 2003

I did some major overhauling of the site's interface to make it "more" standards compliant and "more" friendly. I also cleaned up some links in the photos section.

30 January 2003

I have recently updated my resume and begun work on a sequel to my first release quality game Cartman Assault. The game is titled Battle Field: Groodies and it is a hybrid strategy-action game where you command an army of Cartmans against an army of aliens on a dynamic, war terrain. Screen shots and more info will be released as the game nears its completion.

9 September 2002

I just finished coding and debugging my new Fractal Explorer. It started as a simple project to render fractals, but it turned into an extremely functional fractal generation and exploration tool. The project page contains background information on fractals as well as the source code to the project.

19 May 2002

Well, I did it! I graduated from one of the top undergraduate institutions in the world, that would be Harvey Mudd College to the uninitiated. The complete lack of updates this semester is due to my research at Aerospace Corp., my Ant Colony Simulation which I presented as my final project in my Scientific Computing course, and my many hours lost in planning my post-college life. Take care Mudd!

13 December 2001

I recently completed an artificially intelligent computer player for the Swedish card game Seven (Sju:an in Swedish). This was the final project for my Neural Networks course at college. Also, happy Lucia day to all of my gregarious Swedish visitors.

26 November 2001

A lack of recent updates serves to confirm the rather copious amounts of work I have been stressing about here at Harvey Mudd College. However, I have found the time to clean up the site a bit, including my resume and the photos section.

16 October 2001

After great deliberation, I have decided to host my web page on my school's web server which frees me from the hassles of maintaining my own server. I have also added around 300 new photos to the site from my recent trip to Europe.

16 April 2001

Sad news today. It appears that Wind River, which recently acquisitioned the operating systems units of BSDi, has decided that Slackware Linux be spun off into its own company. For more information read Patrick J. Volkerding's announcement or check the employee webpages of David Cantrell, Logan Johnson, and Chris Lumens.

7 April 2001

Due to the increasingly large number of pages present on this site, I have added a search engine to aid visitors in finding specific documents.

6 April 2001

I have added over 100 new photos to the site to celebrate the completion of my site restructuring. The entire site was re-organized into sections which improve maintainability and allow visitors to browse the information with far greater ease.

3 April 2001

Three college biology projects I worked on have been added to the projects page. I also updated the about and links page as well as the web interface.

2 April 2001

After an extensive analysis of viewing patterns and a careful review of the needs for future expansion, I decided that this web site would undergo its largest restructuring in six months. This included an overhaul of the web site's internal design, a new web interface, and more fresh content. I now proudly present to my viewers an entirely brand new online experience!

22 March 2001

A new web site stats page has been added to give a rough estimate of the amount of traffic this web site receives.

19 March 2001

I added 20+ photos from my trip to maui and I also have 100+ photos on the way, but first I want to design a new navigation interface. Expect this transition to be implemented within the week.

10 March 2001

The site has undergone a major change in appearance with influences from Freshmeat. Also, a forum has been added to allow discussion of the site or to leave a message to the other visitors.

9 March 2001

Well, the site is back after a somewhat chaotic downtime this past month. A great deal of work has been done on the back end of this web site and it is now being hosted on a different computer. I believe this will enhance its responsiveness and provide a greater interactive experience. Enjoy!!!

2 February 2001

As of the 27 January 2001, a bill has been signed into effect in California which disallows the charging of excessive tariff fees during stage 3 alerts by the energy providers. This means that my site will no longer go down when there are power outages, unless they are state wide rolling blackouts.

16 January 2001

I am growing very tired of these damned power outages!!! My college has promised that it will maintain power to the student servers even during future power outages, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

15 January 2001

Arg!!! I apologize for those of you who could not access this site between 1/09/01-1/14/01, but the stage 3 power alert in California forced my college to cut the power to my server :-( At any rate, it is now back up and running.

1 January 2001

Happy New Year everyone!!! I am adding around 30 new pictures to start off the new year as well as planning a new project, loosely based on my genetic programming experience. Stay tuned...

22 December 2000

Merry Christmas and/or Happy Chanukah! I love being home for the holidays. Christmas trees and/or menorahs lighting up the room, a nice fire warming up the room, and family and friends. Not to mention the ability to work on my own programming projects, clean up my web page, and learn a few new languages ;-)

14 December 2000

Ah!!! almost done with finals! Just one left, so I figured I would celebrate by adding about 25 more photos to the site. These include some fun party photos and more Europe photos. I expect to be adding around 50 or so new photos during break, so stay tuned...

6 December 2000

I made some minor alterations to the page today which should make the page easier to navigate. I also cleaned up some typos and prepared about 30 new photos for the site.

3 December 2000

I just spent the last 24 hours reinstalling my OS because someone released a buggy package for the new glibc2.2 library. Anyway, my computer is now running again, so Huzzah!

26 November 2000

Whoohoo!!! There are about twenty NEW photos online. I finally developed one of the last rolls of film from my Europe trip and I have received some digital photos from Jenny whom I traveled with in France.

16 November 2000

With finals just around the corner, the professors have decided to squeeze in their last exams and homeworks while they can. So, my life is going to be a bit chaotic for the remaining month before Christmas.

13 November 2000

My college has been experiencing frequent power outages lately which can last up to six hours at a time. This unfortunately means that my server might be down every once and a while.

24 October 2000

I have accumulated a rather large number of photos from high-school, home, and family, to be scanned soon for the page.

21 October 2000

Cleaned up some of the pages, added new photos from rome, annecy, and paris, and patched up some security issues.

17 October 2000

Added the finishing touches to the page. The page is now fully automated thanks to a modified buildpage script and my own little perl of wisdom.

16 October 2000

Yippie my web page is now operational!!!

10 October 2000

Got a new computer today...should make the web page MUCH faster, not to mention my compile times!

12 September 2000

Finished installing Slackware linux on my computer...it runs like a dream.
