Behold the lowly can of SPAM! For some inexplicable reason, a number of these SPAM cans have been placed within the grid above. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to locate and "defuse" these cans. If you are not careful, they will explode, showering you with the strange pink substance they contain. Not only would that be incredibly messy, but you might even end up eating SPAM for the rest of your life! Is that what you want? No? Then good luck! You'll need it!

• There are cans of SPAM hidden in the grid. The number depends on the difficulty level:
  • Easy: 10
  • Medium: 40
  • Hard: 100
• Your job is to "defuse" the cans; this is accomplished by clicking on a cell containing a can of SPAM while holding down the shift key.
• To help you safely locate the cans of SPAM, the remaining grid cells contain numbers. These numbers indicate how many of the surrounding 8 cells contain cans of SPAM.
• By simply clicking on a grid cell (without pressing the shift key), you will reveal its contents. Be forewarned, however: clicking a cell containing a can of SPAM in this manner will cause it to detonate, and you will lose the game!
• A similar warning applies to the use of the shift key: if you attempt to "defuse" a cell that does not actually contain a can of SPAM, the game will end.
• To help you clear the grid, two things will happen automatically:
  • Should you click on a cell with no neighbors containing SPAM, all eight of the surrounding cells will automatically be revealed. Should one of those neighboring cells also have no SPAM among its neighbors, the process will continue. Thus, don't be surprised if large sections of the grid are cleared instantaneously with a single click!
  • Once you have successfully located and "defused" the specified number of SPAM cans around a numbered cell, you can click on the number again to expose any neighboring cells that are still hidden.
• When your mission ends (in success or SPAM), you can click the New Game button to begin with a newly-generated grid, or click one of the difficulty levels to try an easier or harder challenge.
