"To those willing to pay the price, power."

Types of magical powers
|
Foresight
|
The most benign (if such
a word can be used) type of magical power
are those which require foresight and patience
to use. Since they have no direct combat application,
and their effects are only useful in very
specialized situations, these spells cost
the least out of their practicioners. Often
requiring strange herbs and rare animals to
be sacrificed, these rituals are costly and
labor intensive. However, they do not permanently
drain prices from their users, and the knowledge
or benefits they provide can be of strategic
use to the clever Magi.
|
Force
|
Far more dangerous than
typical arcane powers, these effects wreck
permanent effects upon the landscape. The
ability to shatter stone, cause earthquakes,
immolate enemies in fire, crush hearts, deflect
blows, and any other direct physical forces
all fall under this category. Using these
kinds of rituals is incredibly dangerous,
for the price powering these arcane powers
is often permanent. While very flexible in
their use, these powers often permanently
drain their user, causing them to be used
only in emergencies, if at all.
|
Knowledge
|
The most dangerous of
all is using the arcane powers to gather more
knowledge. Some pieces of knowledge are too
dangerous for men to know, for the short life
spans of men precludes the wisdom necessary
to hold such secrets properly. In addition,
there are many things which sleep between
the stars who lay in wait for minds questing
for such forbidden knowledge. While the knowledge
gained from such searches is incredibly powerful,
the things it may bring to Aengvold in return
make it very dangerous.
